Early Outreach

As someone born with a limb difference, I understand deeply how the language and perspective of parents and caregivers shape how a child grows into their identity. I’ve seen what helps—and what can unintentionally hurt—which is why I believe so strongly in the power of early outreach.

At Grip, we offer in-person and virtual visits from myself or trained Grip Ambassadors to provide reassurance, perspective, and lived experience to families navigating those first days.

 Mentor Match

is a connection and confidence-building program designed to help limb-different youth feel seen, supported, and empowered by normalizing their experiences through meaningful relationships and representation. Through a combination of personal and virtual home visits, mentorship, peer connections, and uplifting storytelling, this program creates a powerful foundation for lifelong confidence and pride.

At its core, Mentor Match connects children and teens with relatable mentors—athletes, artists, professionals, and community leaders who also live with limb differences. These mentors provide encouragement, answer questions, and serve as real-life proof that difference is not a limitation, but a source of strength. Families can opt in to receive visits—either in person or virtual—where mentors or trained GRIP representatives offer reassurance, perspective, and age-appropriate confidence-building activities.

Children can also receive letters from mentors through our “Letters from Someone Like Me” initiative, with the option to continue communication as pen pals or mentees. In addition, small “Peer Pods” bring together youth by age or region in virtual or in-person group meetups that include games, discussions, and creative projects—all focused on celebrating what makes each child unique.

Mentor Match also includes school and community speaking engagements led by inspiring limb-different role models. These interactive sessions share real stories of resilience, strength, and identity, offering a powerful example of what it looks like to own one’s difference with pride. Through all of these touchpoints, children and families are invited to contribute to our story-sharing initiative on Grip Hub, reinforcing the message that they are not only normal—they are strong, capable, and never alone.
